Brain Based Messaging.
The Science of Explaining Breakthrough Technology
Messaging that makes complex innovation simple, compelling, and investable.
Because PEOPLE DON’T INVEST in WHAT THEY DON’t Understand
After decades of studying the subconscious mind, investor psychology, and emerging technologies, Scott discovered a common reason many groundbreaking companies fail. Their technology was revolutionary, but their message was not. The innovation moved faster than people’s ability to understand it.
This insight became the foundation of Brain Based Messaging, a methodology that helps companies transform complex innovation into messages investors, customers, and markets can immediately grasp.
Brain Based Messaging: The Science of Making Breakthrough Technology Understandable
Why Great Technology Often Fails Before It Gets Its Chance
The world is filled with revolutionary technologies that never reach their potential.
Not because the technology failed.
Not because the market did not need it.
But because people could not understand it.
A breakthrough technology can completely transform an industry, but if investors, customers, partners, or the public cannot quickly grasp what it does and why it matters, the opportunity is often lost.
This is the hidden challenge facing many deep technology companies.
They are trying to explain something the human brain has never seen before.
That is where Brain Based Messaging™ comes in.
Brain Based Messaging is a framework I developed after decades of studying how people process information, combined with my experience on Wall Street, analyzing emerging technologies, working with startups, and watching companies succeed or fail based on their ability to communicate their vision.
The goal is simple:
Take technology the brain does not understand and transform it into a message the brain can immediately recognize, remember, and believe.
What Is Brain Based Messaging?
Brain Based Messaging is the process of designing communication around how the human brain naturally learns, processes, and connects with new information.
The brain does not absorb completely unfamiliar ideas easily.
It compares new information against existing knowledge.
It searches for patterns.
It looks for something familiar.
When it cannot create a connection, the brain often rejects the information, not because it is wrong, but because it requires too much mental effort.
This is why many breakthrough technologies struggle.
- The company is speaking the language of engineers.
- The investor is listening with the brain of a decision-maker.
There is a communication gap.
Brain Based Messaging closes that gap.
It transforms:
Complex technology → Simple mental model
Technical features → Human benefits
Unknown concepts → Familiar comparisons
Innovation → Investment opportunity
The Problem With Traditional Tech Messaging
Most technology companies explain their innovations from the inside out.
They start with:
- The science
- The architecture
- The patents
- The technical advantages
- The engineering breakthroughs
All of these things matter.
But they often answer the wrong question.
Investors and customers are usually asking:
“Why should I care?”
The human brain does not first process technology.
It processes meaning.
Before someone understands how something works, they need to understand what it represents.
A company developing a revolutionary battery technology should not begin with chemistry.
It should begin with the problem.
A fusion company should not begin with plasma physics.
It should begin with the energy challenge facing humanity.
An artificial intelligence company should not begin with algorithms.
It should begin with what becomes possible.
The message has to create a bridge from what people already know to what they need to understand.
How I Created Brain Based MESSAGING
The concept came from the intersection of three areas of my life:
1. Studying The Subconscious Mind
Long before I focused on technology messaging, I spent years studying how the subconscious mind influences decision-making.
One thing became clear:
People rarely make decisions based purely on information.
They make decisions based on how information is interpreted.
The brain uses shortcuts, patterns, stories, emotions, and familiar references to process new ideas.
This applies everywhere.
A person does not need to understand every component of a smartphone to understand its value.
They understand:
“It puts the world in your pocket.”
That mental shortcut creates instant understanding.
The same principle applies to breakthrough technologies.
The challenge is finding the mental shortcut.
2. Almost 40 Years Studying Wall Street & Market Psychology
My experience in the financial markets taught me another important lesson:
The best technology does not always win.
The technology people understand often wins.
I spent years analyzing companies, identifying emerging trends, communicating opportunities to investors, and watching how markets responded.
I saw incredible companies fail because they could not explain their opportunity.
I also saw companies with a clear story gain attention because investors immediately understood the vision.
Markets are driven by numbers, but they are also driven by perception.
Before investors analyze a technology, they have to understand it.
3. Working With Successful And Failed Startups
Over the years, I have been around numerous technology companies.
I noticed a pattern.
The companies that struggled often had one common problem:
They were too close to their own technology.
They knew every detail.
They understood every technical advantage.
But they forgot that outsiders were seeing it for the first time.
The founders were speaking from inside the technology.
The investors were standing outside looking in.
The companies that succeeded were usually the ones that could answer three questions clearly:
- What problem are you solving?
- Why is your solution dramatically different?
- Why does this matter now?
That is the foundation of Brain Based Messaging.
Brain Based Messaging For Emerging Technology Companies
Breakthrough technologies face a unique challenge.
They are creating categories that do not exist yet.
There is no existing reference point.
That means traditional marketing often fails.
You cannot simply explain something new.
You have to connect it to something familiar.
For example:
A company creating a new energy technology might not say:
“We developed an advanced molecular conversion platform.”
The brain has nowhere to place that.
Instead:
“We created a way to transform unwanted carbon resources into valuable clean fuel molecules.”
Now the brain has a connection…and NOW the technology has a story.
The Three Principles of Brain Based Messaging
1. Start With The Problem, NOT The Technology
(KEY POINT) People do not buy technology.
They buy solutions.
The strongest messages begin with the pain point.
What problem exists?
Why has nobody solved it?
Why does it matter now?
2. Build A Mental Bridge
Every breakthrough technology needs an analogy.
A bridge connects the unfamiliar to the familiar.
Examples:
- “The iPhone was not a phone. It was a computer in your pocket.”
- “Tesla was not just an electric car. It was a software company on wheels.”
- “A breakthrough AI system is not just software. It is an intelligent digital worker.”
The analogy is not simplifying the technology.
It is creating the doorway to understanding.
3. Focus On The Transfromation
The brain remembers change.
The best technology stories answer:
“How does the world look different after this exists?”
Investors are not only investing in technology.
They are investing in the future that technology creates.
WHY BRAIN BASED MESSAGING MATTERS FOR INVESTORS
Investors see thousands of opportunities.
A company may only have seconds to create interest.
If the message is too complicated, the opportunity disappears.
A powerful technology story creates three things:
Understanding
The investor quickly understands what the company does.
Belief
The investor sees why the technology matters.
Memory
The investor remembers the company after the conversation ends.
That is the difference between explaining technology and communicating opportunity.
Helping Google Understand What Humans Need To Understand
Modern SEO is no longer just about keywords.
Search engines increasingly focus on understanding concepts, relationships, and expertise.
This is where Brain Based Messaging becomes powerful.
The same principles that help humans understand technology also help search engines understand content.
Google needs clear connections:
- What problem does this technology solve?
- What category does it belong to?
- Why is it different?
- Who is it designed for?
- What expertise supports this perspective?
By creating clear, structured content around emerging technologies, companies can improve their ability to be discovered by both investors and search engines.
The goal is not just ranking.
The goal is becoming the trusted source people find when they are searching for answers.
The Future Belongs To Companies That CAN EXPLAIN THEIR INNOVATION
The next generation of trillion-dollar companies will not only be built by great engineers.
They will be built by companies that can communicate their vision.
Technology creates possibilities.
Messaging creates understanding.
And understanding creates adoption.
That is the purpose of Brain Based Messaging™.
Turning impossible-to-explain technology into ideas that investors, customers, and the world can understand.
